8 Reasons Why You Keep Falling Off The Diet Wagon

8 Reasons Why You Keep Falling Off The Diet Wagon

    By Tom Venuto

    www.BurnTheFat.com

Clearly, we have an obesity problem in America and many other countries across our planet. Yet, I propose that we do not have a weight loss problem today. In case you’re confused at this apparent contradiction, consider these statistics:

According to a study from Oxford University published in the International Journal of Obesity, within 3 to 5 years, about 80 percent of all ‘weight losers’ have regained the lost weight, and often gained back a little extra.

According to research by the National Weight Control Registry, that relapse rate may be as high as 95 percent.

For comparison, relapse rates for drug, alcohol and tobacco dependency have been reported in the range of 50-90%.

This means that lots and lots of people have “successfully” lost weight. But not many have kept it off. Therefore, we don’t have a weight loss problem, we have a weight-relapse problem; we have a “not sticking with it” problem. Wouldn’t you agree?

In fact, the fall and subsequent weight-regain usually doesn’t take years. Many people have abandoned their new year’s resolutions within weeks. By the time the Super Bowl party rolls around, their diet is history!

If this is true, then shouldn’t we put more of our attention onto figuring out why you haven’t been sticking with your program, and what you should do about it?

I put together this new list (below) of the top 8 reasons why you fall off the wagon.

Rather than worrying about the minutiae of your diet plan, like whether you should be on low carb or high carb, Mediterranean or Okinawan, vegetarian or meat eater, I propose that if you simply focus on these 8 issues, you’ll start getting more lasting results.

How? By being able to stick with whichever plan you decided was best for you! After all, even if you have the best nutrition program in the world – on paper – it doesn’t do you much good if you can’t stick with it in practice!

    THE 8 REASONS

    1. No focus: you didn’t set goals, you didn’t put your goals in writing, and/or you didn’t stay focused on your goals daily (by reading them, affirming them, looking at a vision board, etc.)

    2. No priorities: you may have set a goal, but you didn’t put it on or near the top of your priorities list. For example, your goal is six pack abs, but drinking beer and eating fast food on the weekend is higher on your priorities list than having a flat stomach.

    3. No support system: you tried to go at it alone; no buddy system, training partners, family, spouse, friends, mentors or coaches to turn to for information and emotional support when the going got tough.

    4. No Accountability: you didn’t keep score for your own accountability – with a progress chart, weight record, measurements, food journal, training journal, and you didn’t set up external accountability (ie, report to someone else or show your results to someone else)

    5. No patience: you were only thinking short term and had unrealistic expectations. You expected 10 pounds a week or 5 pounds a week or 3 pounds a week, so the first week you lost “only” 1 or 2 pounds or hit a plateau, you gave up.

    6. No planning: you winged it. You walked into the gym without having a workout in hand, on paper, you didn’t plan your workouts into your weekly schedule; you didn’t have a menu on paper, you didn’t make time (so instead you made excuses, like “I’m too busy”)

    7. No balance: your diet or training program was too extreme. You went the all or nothing, “I want it now” route instead of the moderate, slow-and-steady wins the race route.

    8. No personalization: your nutrition or training program was the wrong one for you. It might have worked for someone else, but it didn’t suit your schedule, personality, lifestyle, disposition or body type.

So there you have it – 8 reasons why most people fall off the wagon! Have you been making these mistakes? If so, the solutions are clear and simple: focus, prioritize, get support, be accountable, be patient, plan, balance and personalize.

    Train hard and expect success,

What Do You and I Have in Common with Tiger Woods, Oprah and Bill Gates?

What Do You and I Have in Common with Tiger Woods, Oprah and
    Bill Gates?
    By Jill Koenig

If I gave you $1,440 today, how would you spend it?

I suspect you would carefully ponder the best use of it.

I bet you might even apply a portion of it towards
    achieving some of your Goals.

And what if I gave you $1,440 tomorrow?

And another $1,440 the next day… and the next day?

How would you invest your $1,440 each day?

    Still with me John ?

Now what if I gave you $86,400 today?

    Would you value those dollars?

Would you apply a portion of them towards your Goals?

And what if I gave you $86,400 tomorrow and the next day
    and the next day?

I bet you would pay even closer attention to how you would
    invest it, right?

You would make it work for you.

    I sure would.

I’m not going to give you $1,440 or $86,400.

You already have the equivalent of it but you may not
    realize it.

Those numbers should have tremendous meaning in the scope
of life for both you and I.

You already have 1,440 and 86,400 in your bank account.

We begin each day with 1,440 MINUTES deposited into our
    TIME bank account.

We begin each day with 86,400 SECONDS deposited into our
    TIME bank account.

And how we VALUE those minutes and seconds is what
determines what they may bring us.

How we spend them and how we INVEST them determines the
quality of our life today and tomorrow.

And when you string the seconds and minutes together to
accumulate in the form hours, days, weeks, months and
    years, you determine your destiny.

Much like money can compound with interest, so does our
time.  Invest one hour per day into reading and it might
not seem like much but invest an hour per day into reading
in an area that can improve the quality of your life for a
month or six months or one year and you have the power to
    shape your destiny.

We all began today with the same amount of time.

If you consciously value your TIME bank account, you can
transform any area of your life and achieve your Goals.

    You are already wealthy.

What makes a person’s life for better or worse is the way
they invest their wealth of minutes.

What are you doing with your seconds?

How are you investing your minutes?

    Everything affects everything…

    How you think.

    Who you spend them with.

    What you do with them.

You may or may not have the dollars at your disposal but
you do have the seconds and you do have the minutes.

Allot some of your minutes towards reaching your Goals.

Allot some of your minutes towards pursuing your DREAMS…
    every day.

The one thing you and I have in common is that today we
started our day on equal ground with the same amount of
minutes.  Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, Michael Phelps, Tiger
Woods, (insert the name of someone who inspires you).  We
all have the same minutes today.

What separates us is how we value our minutes and how we
    spend and invest them.

What we do with that them will determine whether or not we
    reach our Goals.

Don’t be fooled by the calendar. There are only as many days
in the year as you make use of. One man gets only a week’s
value out of a year while another man gets a full year’s
value out of a week.  -Charles Richards

Quality of life and time management are as much about clarity,
prioritizing as it is about appreciation of the minutes we
    have been given.

What we do with those 1,440 minutes today and everyday will
    determine our results in life.

    That’s 525,600 minutes per year.

    Invest them wisely.

How to Transform Pain Into Pleasure Through the Law of Attraction

How to Transform Pain into Pleasure Through the Law of
    Attraction

    By Jill Koenig
    Author, Coach, Motivational Speaker

This week I feature a question submitted by a GoalGuru reader.

    This week’s question:

Question: What is the difference between the Law of Attraction
    and Goal Setting?

Answer: There is not so much a difference as the two principles
    work hand in hand.

In fact, Goal Setting is the first step in activating the Law of
    Attraction.

In order to empower the Law of Attraction, you must take the
first action, which is to decide with positive intention,
exactly what you want in clear, concise detail.

This step, this action, within the Law of AttrACTION is the
    ignitor that activates the process.

When I ask people what they want, most respond with a list of
all the things they DON’T want.

The average person invests more energy and thought on what
they DON’T want than what they DO want.

And that is what they attract. More of what they DON’T want.

Most people focus their thoughts and energies on their fears
rather then focusing on gratitude for what and whom has already
blessed them, and their heart’s deepest desires.

    So what’s wrong with that?

The Law of Attraction mandates that you become what you think
    about.

The more you dwell upon what you don’t want, the more you are
    empowering the negative emotions.

Let me clarify how focusing on what you DON’T want works against
you within the Law of Attraction.

    Where focus goes, energy flows.

Let me say that again, it is worth repeating.

    Where focus goes, energy flows.

When you are focusing all of your thoughts and attention on the
things you fear, that is what you will manifest, create, and
    attract more of.

    You have a choice.

You can focus on the problem or you can focus on the solutions.

When you focus all of your thoughts and attention on your
problems or blame others, that is what you will manifest and
attract more of. You are actually actively creating more of what
    you DON’T want.

You cannot manifest joy and create your highest destiny when
your thoughts and actions are consumed with fear, anxiety,
problems, complaints, blame, worries and all of the other
negatives that present themselves to you during a given day.

You always have a choice how and where to direct your thoughts
    and energy.

If your dominant emotions are fear, anger, resentment, worry and
blame, that is what you will attract more of. When you are
experiencing those negative emotions, you stop giving. You no
longer breathe life into your dreams. When in those states, you
are not making positive, joyful contributions to your dreams.
Those negative thoughts and emotions actually repel what you
desire. Negative emotions suck the life out of your Goals.

To combat those negatives, and instantly transform pain into
pleasure, the solution is to choose the positive.

Focus on the solutions.  Focus on what you can joyfully do to
    create positive changes.

The surest way out of any rut is to accept complete
responsibility for your circumstances and joyfully identify the
positive changes you can make within yourself. Then take action.
When you can joyfully, freely choose to make positive contributions,
    everything around you will change.

If you want to experience more abundance, express more
    gratitude.  Give abundantly.

If you want to experience more love, give more love.

If you want more intimacy, give it, create it, nurture it.

Get grateful for all that you have.

Focus on how blessed you are.

Remember that you have responsibilities within the Law of
    Attraction.

There are actions you must consistently take.

If focus goes where energy flows, then focus more on your Goals
than you do on your problems. Focus more on your Goals than you
    do on your fears.

Focus on what you DO want.

Focus on what and whom you are grateful for.

Focus on your most cherished, beautiful, treasured deepest
    desires.

    Focus on the positive.

You become what you think about.

    Focus on the Goal.

What beautiful, worthy Goal do you want to ignite by expressing
    more gratitude?

What vision or dream do you have that you can inject with
positive, loving thoughts and actions? What area of your life
would you like to inject with a burst of positive energy?

Give it your all and watch it manifest.

The best way to predict the future is to create it.

    Live Your Dreams,

    Jill Koenig

    3 Powerful Weight Loss Tips

3 Powerful Weight Loss Tips by Tony Mase – http://www.lifetosuccess-recommends.com/tppc10.html

Every January 1st, millions upon millions of people
worldwide set out on their annual quest to try to shed their
    excess pounds.

Unfortunately, by now, the overwhelming majority of these
well-intentioned folks will have already failed and uttered
    those immortal words…

“Oh well, I guess I’ll try again next year.”

    Don’t let that be you!

Here are three powerful tips that’ll help you lose the
weight you want to lose once and for all:

Powerful Weight Loss Tip #1 – Stop “trying” to lose weight.

The word “try” is, in my opinion, the single biggest “weasel
word” in the entire English language.

Why do I call it a “weasel word”, you ask?

    Simple…

The word “try”, by its very definition, comes with a built-
    in “escape hatch”.

If you say you’ll “try” to do something and you don’t, you
can always use your “escape hatch” and “weasel” out of it by
    saying…

    “Well, I tried!”

    Here’s the deal…

You either will do something or you won’t do something…

You either do something or you don’t do something…

There’s no such thing as “trying” to do something!

    Think about it…

    “Try” to read this article.

    You can’t, can you?

You either will read this article or you won’t read this
    article…

You either do read this article or you don’t read this
    article…

You can’t “try” to read this article.

    Nor…

Can you “try” to lose weight.

You either will lose weight or you won’t lose weight…

You either do lose weight or you don’t lose weight…

    It’s that simple!

Powerful Weight Loss Tip #2 – Focus on what you want, not on
    what you don’t want.

In the book for which he’s best known, his classic
masterpiece “The Science of Getting Rich”, Wallace D.
    Wattles wrote:

“The Creative Power within us makes us into the image of
that to which we give our attention.”

Most people who set out to lose weight start out by saying
    something like…

“I want to lose 50 pounds.”

    Question for you…

If you make a statement to yourself like…

    “I want to lose 50 pounds”…

What are you giving your attention to?

    Those excess 50 pounds, right?

    Right.

    Therefore…

Since that’s what you’re giving your attention to…

    Guess what?

    You got it…

    That’s *exactly* what you’ll have…

    Those excess 50 pounds!

    In other words…

    By making a statement like…

    “I want to lose 50 pounds”…

You’re subconsciously setting yourself up for failure before
    you even begin.

    So…

    What should you do instead?

    Simple…

In his book “The Personal Power Course”, Wallace D. Wattles
    wrote:

“… whenever you think of your physical self… think of
the IDEAL BODY WHICH YOU ARE BUILDING, and not of the body
    which now is.”

    And…

Therein lies the secret to successfully losing weight.

If you weigh 200 pounds and you want to weigh 150 pounds…

    Rather than say…

    “I want to lose 50 pounds”…

    Say…

    “I want to weigh 150 pounds”…

    Or…

    Better…

    “I weigh 150 pounds.”

    Or…

    Even better…

Take “weight” out of the picture altogether and simply…

Form a clear and definite mental image of “the ideal body
which you are building” and hold that image in your thoughts
“whenever you think of your physical self”.

    Think about it…

If you looked and felt *exactly* as you wanted to look and
feel, would you really care what you weighed?

    I think not. :-)

Powerful Weight Loss Tip #3 – Stay away from mirrors,
    scales, and tape measures.

Most people who begin a weight loss program, regardless of
what it is, seem to have this overwhelming need to look in
the mirror, hop on the scale, or check their measurements
every five minutes to see if their weight loss program is
    working.

    Now…

“Every five minutes” may be a bit of an exaggeration, but
for some it’s not too far from the truth. :-)

    Here’s a question for you to ponder…

If you look in the mirror, hop on the scale, or check your
measurements anytime before you have the ideal body you
want, are you thinking of “the ideal body which you are
building” or of “the body which now is”?

    Think about it.

    Remember…

“The Creative Power within us makes us into the image of
that to which we give our attention.”

    So…

If you *really* want to shed your excess pounds this New
    Year once and for all…

    Here’s my best advice:

    1. Take “weight” out of the picture altogether and decide
*exactly* how you want to look and feel.

    2. Form a clear and definite mental image of “the ideal body
which you are building” and hold that image in your thoughts
“whenever you think of your physical self”.

    3. Stay away from mirrors, scales, and tape measures.

    With that…

I wish you and your loved ones a wealthy, healthy,
    successful, and happy New Year!

Stubboorn Fat: Does it affect you? Part Two

    By David Grisaffi, CHEK
    Corrective Exercise Kinesiologist
    Golf Biomechanic Certified
    Nutrition and Lifestyle Coach

When it comes to the physical make-up of men versus women, many of the differences are obvious. Men, on average, are 10-15% larger than women, weigh 20% more, and are 30% stronger (especially when considering upper body strength). Testosterone is one of the major hormones active in a man’s body. Men also produce more HGH (human growth hormone). Testosterone stimulates muscle enlargement and bone growth and also raises the level of red blood cells in a man’s blood stream.

What you may not know, however, is that all of these factors combine to make oxygen much more available to a man’s cells than a woman’s cells. That means a man could be working at 50% of his capacity during physical activity, but a woman would have to be working at 70% of her capacity in order to keep up. It is not as easy for her cells to absorb oxygen.

This is due partly to the fact that women have a smaller percentage of lean tissue (muscle, organs, etc.) and a much higher percentage of body fat. Though this is detrimental in a short sprint, a higher percentage of fat means that women can power their cells longer from their body’s reserves without stopping to eat or drink in order to refuel. This may translate into greater endurance. Studies comparing men and women in running, swimming, and speed skating have all shown that the differences in time vs. distance decreased between men and women as the length of the event progressed.

Hundreds of studies have showed some interesting differences between men and women in nearly every area. Looking through the research, you would discover all kinds of facts such as how much more likely women are to wear a seatbelt than men (2 times more likely), to how often they are the sexual initiators in a monogamous relationship (65% of the time).

As interesting as those facts may be, let’s concentrate on the differences between men and women that have an effect on women’s physical fitness. These differences are primarily found in the functioning of a woman’s hormones and the construction and function of her fat cells. These two factors influence everything from the way a woman’s metabolism functions; to how likely she is to suffer from stubborn fat and other health related diseases such as osteoporosis.

Though the construction of the male and female fat cell is basically the same, they differ vastly when is comes to size and function. To begin with, a women’s fat cell is five times larger than a man’s! In addition, not only are women’s cells capable of holding more fat, they are genetically programmed to do so. It all comes down to enzymes:

    Lipogenic- Fat Storing Enzymes

    Lipolytic- Fat Releasing Enzymes

Though these enzymes are present in both men and women, women’s bodies have two times the number of Lipogenic (fat storing) enzymes, and only half the number of Lipolytic (fat releasing) enzymes. This is the genetic legacy of women’s role as the childbearing and nurturing gender of the species. Nature wanted to ensure that women were carrying around enough fat cells to nurture their growing babies and to breast-feed them once they were born. A baby in-utero requires the mother to burn at least 300 extra calories a day and breast-feeding can require as much as 500 extra calories.

In addition to the normal caloric needs of a baby, our foremothers also held onto extra body fat in case of a drought or famine. This extra fat was stored in the hips, thighs, and buttocks. Therefore, the females who survived famine and drought to pass down their genes were the women whose bodies were adept at storing fat. Skinny thighs in the past were a serious liability, serving only to increase the risk of death when food supplies became scarce. These enzymes tend to be balanced in a healthy person. Too much l of either develops an unbalanced system develops and leads to insulin resistance, leading contributor to stubborn fat.

Other contributors to stubborn fat are estrogenic compounds called xenoestrogens. These chemicals are a byproduct of fertilizers, plastics, soy isoflavones, certain herbs and petroleum products. These compounds in our food and water supply mimic estrogenic functions and aid in binding to estrogenic fat receptors. This produces induced aromatase influence. Aromatase is an enzyme which helps convert androgens (male hormone) to estrogenic compounds.
